Yellow split beans curry

Ingredients

  • 250g yellow split peas - Rinsed and soaked in cold water for 1 to 2 hours
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 garlic cloves - finely chopped
  • 25g ginger - finely chopped
  • 1 onion - chopped
  • 2 sticks celery - chopped
  • 1 chopped tomato can - 400g
  • 2 cup water

For the seasoning

  • 20g butter
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Instructions

  • 1. Drain the yellow split peas well and set aside.
  • 2. Heat the oil in a large saucepan, add garlic, ginger, onion and celery and fry until softened.
  • 3. Pour tomato can and water into it and bring to a boil. Add all seasoning ingredients and mix well.
  • 4. Reduce the heat to low heat. Cover and cook until peas are tender for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve with hot steamed rice.

  • Note: if you use the pressure cooker, it will be much quicker.
